Its a question that crops up many many times from teachers – so if it’s troubling you then you are not the only one!
The problem is not so much as getting work done, as it is in getting QUALITY work done and ENOUGH WORK done!

As promised – I mentioned in my post about arranging your classroom that I would put something about the use of a teachers desk….so here are my thoughts!
Raising Expectations
This is the next stage in our classroom management strategy – up to this point we have sorted out the desks and who will be sitting where – based on what we know about the children.
We have then appointed monitors to help with systems around the class which means that things work smoothly and more often than not quicker.
Take a look at your Classroom after you have set out all the desks, library area, mats and all the other essentials that you need.
Firstly look at the walls – do you have display boards….where are they and how big are they??
I finished the previous article with the phrase….
“The basic requirement of behaviour management in your Class is organisation.”
and that’s where we start today.
Todays article gives you an initial step into creating an organised environment in your Classroom – its easy, simple and can be implemented at any time in the school year – so if you haven’t got this working and you think you would like to give it a try (which I recommend) then you can do this now.
Its a vital part of your teaching – yet it is overlooked or given little thought by many.
Its not just a case of shoehorning in the children or arranging desks into groups – its far more involved than this.
Now you maybe think I have gone crazy here by writing about stacking chairs…well perhaps a little bit ! But hey who cares !
How is this relevant to anything involved in teaching or classroom organisation or the school – good question…so listen up !
No matter where you are in your career path – Newly trained, existing member of staff or even moving to a new school…you have to fill the spaces that you now find yourself in.
So what do I mean by this?….
Well there are 3 spaces that you will find in your school and you must have your own unique presence and interpretation of each – let me give you some more detail
IT’S YOUR FIRST TEACHING JOB !
Congratulations on passing your teacher training and getting your first teaching job – we’re all very proud of you!
Now when the dust settles, the handshakes are finished and the drinks put away you can contemplate exactly what lies ahead….now that’s a sobering thought if ever there was one!
